Staying Cool This Summer

As the temperatures climb, it’s crucial to take extra care to stay cool, hydrated, and protected from the sun’s rays. Here’s your go-to guide for enjoying the heat safely and comfortably:

 

STAY HYDRATED

- Aim to drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day. Carrying a reusable water bottle can help you keep track of your intake. Did you know that if you add a pinch of sea salt to your water it can help replenish lost electrolytes, promoting better water absorption and preventing dehydration?

- Incorporate water-rich foods like cucumbers, watermelon, strawberries, and oranges into your diet. They’re refreshing, hydrating, and perfect for a summer snack.

 

COOL YOUR SKIN

- Keep a cooling spray in your fridge - spritzing your face throughout the day can help lower your body temperature. You can simply put 10+ drops of peppermint and lavender essential oils in a glass spray bottle. Fill with water. Shake then spritz!

- Opt for cooler showers to reduce your body heat and close your pores, which can also help your skin stay clear.

- Apply pure aloe vera gel for a soothing, moisturizing, and cooling effect if you’ve spent too much time in the sun.

 

SMART SUN PROTECTION

- Try to avoid the sun between 10 AM and 4 PM when it's at its strongest. Plan indoor activities during these hours, or find a shady spot if you must be outside.

- Wear light, loose-fitting clothing in breathable fabrics, along with a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, to protect your skin and eyes.

- Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30. Reapply every two hours, or more frequently if you're swimming or sweating.

 

Extra Tip: Keep your indoor spaces cooler by closing blinds during the day and using fans or air conditioning. This can help you manage indoor temperatures without overexerting your cooling systems.
